Project Runway’s first plus-size designer is adding to the plus-size community. Ashley Nell Tipton told People magazine that she feels like there isn’t enough clothing out there for plus women to show off their personality. She was first featured at Full Figured Fashion Week in 2012 but, since the first episode of Project Runway, she has become bigger than ever!
Tipton is the first designer, on the show, to specialize in plus-size apparel. As a child, she was bullied and they told her she would never amount to anything. She has definitely proven that her bullies were wrong. She has become an inspiration to so many people, and we are definitely a supporter. Tipton likes "to design funky things, and I love to mix prints and patterns together," says Tipton. "I think outside of the box with my designs."
Her interview with Bustle revealed that “Tipton started noticing the distinct lack of bold, fashion-forward designs available for plus size women — the types of clothing that she'd like to wear herself.”
Tipton is also a fan of SWAK! We are huge fans of her stylist Reah Norman. Reah is also a major hitter in the plus size community. You can see more of her work by following her on Instagram here. Here is how you can steal some of Ashley's SWAK looks:
