Outfits and Anecdotes- Best Year Yet

I used to let “fat” define me. In high school, I did everything I could to change that, including adapting a quite unhealthy routine. Junior year, the year I was in the thick of body hate, I had stopped by a friend’s house to see if she was home. She wasn’t, so I let her dad know I was looking for her and went on with my day. Later that evening, that friend called me and asked me if I had stopped by.  She said her dad told her that “a bigger girl stopped by to see you.” Defeated by his definition of me, I felt frustrated. What her father didn’t know was that “the bigger girl” just reached the lowest weight of her life. It was one of those moments when you realize that there are some people who will always define me as “the big girl.” Genetics,  big bones, whatever you might call it- this was my body. I could work harder to defy my genealogy, OR I could accept and love the body I was given.

January is the time of the year when we’re inundated with New Year’s resolutions and goals. Infomercials don’t typically preach “acceptance” and “confidence” (probably because it's hard to sell) but I WILL!! This IS YOUR YEAR! It’s the year you define yourself by your style and what you wear. It’s the year you define yourself by how you treat others. It’s the year you define yourself by how you love and respect yourself. This year, 2017 can be your best year yet but not because you’re making a cliché resolution. This year can be your best year because your life will be defined by you.

Be Confidently Curvy, Amanda

Hi Sky! Thank you for those kind words. I find it sad that we felt, we had to do those things to ourselves to be “loved.” I’m so glad that you realize now that you are and always have been WORTH IT! Your strength inspires me. Thank you. XOXO
